At KPI Therapy, we believe meaningful care begins with people who are willing to listen, advocate, and speak up for others. Behind every provider and participant is a team working to ensure that individuals receive the support, opportunities, and person-centered care they deserve.

This month, we are proud to spotlight Shmieka Hurst, FHP Coordinator. Shmieka brings compassion, advocacy, leadership, and purpose to her role, helping support Family Home Providers, staff, and the individuals receiving services through KPI.

Meet Shmieka

Shmieka’s journey with KPI began with something that has remained at the heart of her work ever since: advocating for the individuals we serve. Before officially joining the KPI team, Shmieka found herself advocating for a participant who was at risk of losing her job through supported employment. She believed strongly that the individual deserved the opportunity to continue working, growing, and pursuing her goals. That experience reminded Shmieka just how passionate she was about standing up for individuals with disabilities and ensuring their voices, choices, and opportunities were protected. It also helped her realize that she wanted to be part of an organization that shared that same heart, one that sees individuals not simply as participants in a program, but as people with dreams, goals, abilities, and the right to live meaningful lives. That organization was KPI. Today, Shmieka serves as an FHP Coordinator, where she supports Family Home Providers, staff, and the individuals receiving services. Her role includes providing guidance, advocating for participants, supporting providers with compliance and daily challenges, and working alongside the KPI team to promote quality, person-centered care.

In Her Own Words

“My story with KPI is a reminder to me that sometimes your purpose begins with simply caring enough to speak up for someone else.”

For Shmieka, that purpose has continued to grow. One of the most meaningful moments in her journey came when she approached KPI leadership with an opportunity to help start another program. Leadership believed in her vision and agreed to move forward. For Shmieka, it was confirmation that everything had happened in God’s timing. What began with advocating for one individual ultimately opened the door to becoming part of something much bigger. Today, she continues to lead with the same compassion and determination that first inspired her to speak up.

How Shmieka Embodies KPI Values

Shmieka’s work reflects the heart of KPI through advocacy, compassion, leadership, and service. Whether she is supporting a provider, helping resolve a concern, advocating for an individual, or helping create new opportunities, she approaches her work with patience and purpose. She understands that quality services are not only about meeting requirements, they are about making sure people feel supported, heard, respected, and empowered. Her willingness to use her voice for others also reflects the importance of collaboration at KPI. By working alongside providers, staff, leadership, and participants, Shmieka helps strengthen the team and create better outcomes for the individuals we serve.

A Journey Rooted in Purpose

Being part of KPI has impacted Shmieka both professionally and personally. Her journey has given her opportunities to grow as a leader, use her voice to advocate for others, and continue doing what has always been in her heart: serving people.

“What I enjoy most about my role is knowing that the work we do can truly change someone’s life,” Shmieka shared.

That mindset is a powerful reminder that sometimes the greatest impact begins with one person choosing to care enough to make a difference. We are grateful for Shmieka Hurst and the compassion, leadership, and dedication she brings to KPI Therapy. Her journey is a reminder that purpose can begin with a single act of advocacy, and that when the right people come together, that purpose can grow into something much greater. Thank you, Shmieka, for the heart you bring to KPI and for the difference you make in the lives of our providers and the individuals we serve.
